An Anonymous Poem

I didn’t write this. It was sent to me by someone, someone who shall remain shielded, anonymously of course. I thought it so very touching, honest, vulnerable and important. Here it is for your consideration. Be gentle. Your comments will be forwarded to the author.

BROKEN

I have just decided that I will not love you anymore. Perhaps it is the barley controlling my thoughts, but in this comfortable haze, I have accepted the fact that you are poisonous; more poisonous are you, than the damaging nectar that moistens my lips.

You are broken. You are selfish. You are irresponsible with my emotions. You are beyond repair. I will no longer pray for the ability to fix you. You are broken, and not even God can save you.

I have just decided that I cannot love you anymore. Perhaps it is the hops controlling my actions, but in this sweet sedation, I have the strength to sever my heart from yours; for my heart simply cannot afford the investment.

You are cold. You are a liar. You are irresponsible with your own emotions. You are among the walking dead. I can no longer waste my life’s breath on you. You are cold, and not even my body can warm you.

You have resigned yourself to failure. This is unacceptable to me.

You allow opportunities to pass you by. This is unacceptable to me.

You revel in your own sadness, and invoke misery in those closest to you. This is unacceptable to me.

You are poisonous, and I refuse to suffer you any longer. You are poisonous, and I refuse to love you…at least for tonight.
